Every June 28th we celebrate World Tree Day, a date that invites us to recognise the value of trees and their fundamental role in the balance of our ecosystem. At Coverpan, where we work every day in the manufacture of biodegradable, compostable and recyclable packaging, this commemoration has a special meaning.
Why is this day important?
Trees not only purify the air and regulate the climate, they are also key allies in the fight against climate change by sequestering carbon and providing shelter for thousands of species. Without them, life as we know it would not exist.
At Coverpan we believe that innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand, which is why we create packaging that reduces environmental impact, made from compostable and recyclable materials, helping to reduce pressure on natural resources, including our precious forests.
Arbor Day as a call to action day.
Although Arbor Day is often celebrated with symbolic plantings or educational activities, there is an urgent reality behind the day that needs global attention. Trees and forests face critical threats, many of them caused by human activity, and the consequences are more profound than they may seem:
More than 10 million hectares of forest are lost each year from a variety of causes including the expansion of industrial agriculture, unregulated logging, uncontrolled urbanisation and forest fires, many of them caused or mismanaged.
Forests are natural carbon sinks, absorbing large amounts of CO₂ from the atmosphere, helping to mitigate global warming. When trees are cut down, not only is this absorption capacity removed, but already absorbed carbon stored in trunks, roots and soils is also released.
Responsible use of the wood resources that come from our forests is essential, so it is important to keep in mind that by using raw materials such as FSC-certified paper, we are not necessarily having a negative impact on the environment. [Read more]
Conclusion: Sowing awareness, cultivating the future.
World Tree Day is not just a date on the calendar, it is a reminder that nature does not need big speeches, but concrete actions. In a world where natural resources are depleting at an alarming rate, committing to sustainability is a collective responsibility. It all adds up: every tree that is planted, every responsible consumption decision, every sustainable packaging that replaces a polluting one.
At Coverpan, we firmly believe that everyday actions can generate great transformations, which is why we work every day to offer sustainable packaging made with paper that has FSC certification, which guarantees that the origin of this raw material cares for the environment and contributes to a more conscious and circular production model.
